Quart Glass JGS 1 - Ultra High Purity Synthetic
- Product Code: Quartz Glass - JGS1
JGS1 Quartz Glass: Ultra-High Purity Synthetic Fused Silica
JGS1 quartz glass is a premium synthetic fused silica produced using SiCl4 as the raw material and melted with a high-purity hydrogen–oxygen flame. This process yields exceptional optical and structural purity, making JGS1 one of the highest-performing quartz materials available for precision optical and scientific applications.
Key Properties
- High Hydroxyl Content: Contains approximately 2000 ppm of hydroxyl (OH) groups, providing excellent UV transparency.
- Superior UV Transmission: Outstanding performance in short-wave UV; transmittance at 185 nm can reach 90% or higher.
- Absorption Peak: Exhibits a characteristic absorption at 2730 nm.
- Structure: Homogeneous, non-crystalline structure with no grain boundaries — ensures consistent optical behaviour.
- Material Form: Flame-fused, synthetic, bubble-free silica for precision optical work.
Optical Characteristics
- Optimised for deep-UV and visible wavelength ranges.
- Exhibits low birefringence and minimal absorption across 200–2500 nm.
- Exceptional surface polish capability for optical and laser applications.
Applications
- Laser Systems: Deep-UV optics, laser cavity components, and beam windows.
- Lenses & Optical Elements: High-transmission UV/visible lenses and prisms.
- Windows & Mirrors: Precision optical windows and reflective substrates.
- Scientific Instruments: Spectroscopy, lithography, and measurement systems.
Equivalent Materials
The following materials are considered equivalent to JGS1 synthetic quartz silica, offering similar purity and optical transmission characteristics:
- Heraeus: Suprasil 1 and 2
- Saint-Gobain: Spectrosil A and B
- Corning: 7980
- Dynasil: 1100 and 4100
These brands share comparable properties — namely high purity, superior UV transmittance, and outstanding structural homogeneity — making them suitable substitutes depending on project specifications and supply preference.
