The Coolie Light Shade, as the name suggest comes from its conical shape, similar to the Coolie hat worn in the rice fields of Asia.
Coolie Light Shades are available in a wide variety of sizes and colours to suit your light and surroundings. Glass is the most popular material for a Coolie but we now also offer a range in metal. Bespoke Colours: In addition to the standard colours, we offer a bespoke colouring service to colour shades your to specification. This service currently requires an order of 50 pieces or more. | Hurricane Shades |  |

Hurricane lamp shades are probably memorable due to their distinctive shape, originally designed to keep drafts and wind from blowing out your candle.
Hurricane shades are described as somewhat vase-like, curving outward, inward before flaring at the top again. It captures light within the shape, but also diffuses some of it through the projective flare at the top. While it has is taller than it is wide, it's much more stylized than the competing cylinder or elongated cone shape. |

In our Chandelier shades section we have selected shades that are particularly well suited for 4,6 or 8 arm chandeliers. Typically these shades have no neck and are held on the fitting by 2 springs, the fitting hole is also different from a standard shade. Chandelier shades typically have a fitting hole of between 40- 55mm .

Prismatic shades are a speciality at John Moncrieff. We offer a wide range of sizes and styles of prismatic glass shades.
The glass prisms provide a combination of uplight and downlight to illuminate any environment evenly without creating dark spots or glare. The prismatic shade is of particular benefit where light is at a premium as it thrown the light out as opposed to diffusing it, as is the case with many shades. The ribbed glass shades are often referred to as “Holophane" or "Holophane style/type" after the company who originally manufactured them. They are iconic in the "vintage" style lighting. John Moncrieff Ltd carries and extensive range of Aladdin Lamps, chimneys, lamp shades, mantles and other spare parts for most models of lamp. If you cannot see the part you need listed please contact us and we will endeavour to source it for you.
The Aladdin Lamp was originally founded in 1908 as the Mantle Lamp Company of America and they have been producing magnificent lamps ever since. They are highly collectable with rarer models fetching several hundred pounds. The Aladdin Lamp has a circular wick that burns below a conical shaped mantle that glows brightly when heated in a flame. The glowing mantle produces the equivalent of 60 candle power worth of light proving that as well as a collectable, they are a popular practical source of light in many situations. They are economic too with one gallon of fuel (paraffin) providing up to 50 hours of light. | Kosmos Shades |  |

Kosmos lamps are generally of French origin and are popular in Europe. These lamps generated an even, non-flickering flame and gave up to 12 times the light output of a conventional single wick lamp.
Kosmos lamps were readily identified by their unusual shaped chimney, which was waisted in quite heavily around the base, the effect being to substantially increase the draft available to the flame, which in turned improved combustion. Kosmos lamps are unusual in that very often they do not have a separate shade carrier. The shade sits on the ledge around the edge of your Kosmos burner The ledge, this should be between 60 -70mm in diameter. A gallery is used to hang your light. Our galleries are all made from solid brass, robust yet stylish, in designs that are unique to Moncrieff. The correct gallery can make such a difference to the final look of your light, especially when it is combined with our traditional twisted fabric cable.
